Ellian must hide their condition to protect the royal secret, fearing the kingdom’s reaction, where the cursed monarchs might face capture or destruction. “Spellbound” opens with Princess Ellian flying on a giant cat with her friends in Lumbria. It is Ellian’s birthday, and her friends want to hang out with her. However, Ellian says that this year, the celebration will be a close-knit one. Suddenly, there is a flare gun, and Ellian hurries home as the flare is a sign for Ellian to get back home. When Ellian reaches the palace gates Nazara calls out to Ellian as her parents King Solon and Queen Ellsmere of Lumbria request Ellian’s audience. There is a secret within the castle walls as a year ago, Ellian’s parents turned into monsters because of a curse. Even though they are the King and Queen, turning into monsters has made them behave like monsters as well. The interiors of the palace are a mess, and it’s challenging to control these monsters.
Why do the oracles run away from the castle?
Sadly, Ellian and the other advisors have not yet found a cure for this curse. General Cardona is persistent about meeting the King and Queen, and Bolinar handles the situation by making an excuse. In her room, Ellian hangs out with her pink pet rat, Flink, feeling annoyed about the situation. Luckily, there is a ray of hope as Ellian receives a message from the Oracles of the Sun and Moon. They reside in the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness. According to the message, the Oracles are arriving in Lumbria on Ellian’s birthday, which is the present day. Meanwhile, advisors Bolinar and Nazara come up with an idea to make Ellian the Queen as Ellian has turned 15. If Ellian becomes the Queen, then the palace and kingdom will be stable.
Both Ellian and advisors share their points of view. Ellian convinces the advisors to try her method and take the oracle’s advice first. Since Ellian’s parents have become monsters, there is a small birthday party for Ellian. With some difficulty, Ellian controls her beastly parents. Just then, Oracles of the Sun and Moon arrive and become terrified, seeing Ellian’s parents as monsters. The oracles assumed that Ellian was exaggerating when she called her parents monsters. They have a unique all-in-one device that acts like a wand. Pressing some buttons and giving a command will make the things or people act according to the command. Just before the oracles reveal how to get rid of the curse, Ellian’s parents attack the oracles, who vow never to set foot in the castle ever again.

What advice do the oracles have for Ellian?
The last hope Ellian has is lost, and Ellian asks Nazara to make arrangements to become the Queen. That night, Ellian takes the cake to her parents and apologizes for being rude. The reason Ellian got angry was because she wanted to see her parents in their human form once again. Unfortunately, there is chaos in Lumbria the following day as Ellian’s parents have escaped from their cage.
This is because Ellian had forgotten to lock the cage. General Cardona wants to capture these monsters, but Ellian tries to stop Cardona, saying these monsters are her parents. However, Cardona does not listen. So Ellian uses the wand that the oracles have dropped and escapes into the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness along with the monsters and Flink.
The idea comes to Ellian as the oracles reach out to her through the wand and ask Ellian to come to the Dark Forest of Eternal Darkness. Once inside the forest, Flink realizes that it is Bolinar in the rat’s body, and in the real Bolinar’s body, a rat is stuck. Soon, Ellian finds the oracles who tell Ellian that the only way for her parents to become human again is for them to be willing to become human.
Do the monsters recognize Ellian as their daughter?
The monsters need to step into the lake of light, and then Ellian’s parents can become human. There will be a light that will guide Ellian and the group to the mountain. However, the group needs to be careful of any darkness within as this will become a hurdle to reaching the light. The advice does not scare Ellian as she believes she does not have any darkness within. But the oracles tell Ellian that everyone has darkness within.
Inside the cave, some birds create light through their chirps. Soon, Ellian joins in, and so do the monsters, helping create a glowing path to the next destination. However, anything negative said will make a red light and attract darkness. On the way, the monsters growl at each other, creating many red lights. A tornado of darkness starts to pull Ellian inside it. At that time, the monsters suddenly are able to speak, emit bluish-white light, and rescue Ellian. Now Ellian is excited to hear her parents talk even though Ellian realizes that the monsters don’t really understand anything they are saying, nor do they remember anything about Ellian.
According to the monsters, Ellian is the cake girl, as Ellian gave them a cake on her birthday. On their way to the next destination, Ellian makes an effort to explain that she is their daughter. Unfortunately, the guiding light is not to be seen, forcing the group to rest for the night. As Ellian looks at the stars, she hopes that the monsters will remember things soon. It turns out that the monsters remember Ellian’s name, making Ellian excited and hopeful. Soon, the guiding light is seen.
Will Ellian and the monsters make it to the Lake of Light?
The following day, Cardona arrives to where Ellian and the group were there the previous night. It seems like Flink/Bolinar has left a trail for Cardona to find them. Eventually, Ellian realizes what Flink/Bolinar is doing and warns him not to take Cardona’s side. On the way to the next destination, the group needs to cross a sandy path. However, when there is a shadow, the floor acts like quicksand. So, the group jumps onto a rock to save themselves. The monsters argue about which is a better path to take, creating darkness around them. At the same time, Cardona and the team have found Ellian and the monsters. They start running on the sand. Unfortunately, a kitten is stuck in the wave of sand. So, the monsters work together to help Ellian help the kitten.
Sadly, Cardona and the group are catching up, so the father monster creates a distraction, helping the group escape from Cardona. Now, the monsters have walked ahead, leaving Flink/Bolinar and Ellian behind, lost in a maze.

The Turning Point: A Battle of Light, Darkness, and Family Bonds
Suddenly, many little flinks come out from the wall and the ground. As a part of the negotiation, Flink/Bolinar eats the worm given by the other flinks in exchange for getting out of the maze. Thanks to Flink/Bolinar, Ellian is reunited with her monster parents.Once out of the maze, the group hangs out with the giant cats and their families. Seeing Ellian hang out with the kittens, the monsters realize Ellian is their daughter. Now, the last stop is the Lake of Light, and the group makes it to the lake.
In excitement, Ellian enters the light and plays with Flink/Bolinar. However, the monsters are unable to enter. Suddenly, the light becomes like a screen showing the monsters in human form fighting with each other. This was the reason why there was a curse on the King and Queen, turning them into monsters.
The monsters realize that they don’t want to be married to each other and tell Ellian the same thing. This was the last straw for Ellian. As soon as Ellian hears this, she starts to yell, asking if her parents ever thought about what Ellian wants. There is so much anger and disappointment within Ellian that the darkness consumes her entirely.
The monsters realize that Ellian feels unloved by her parents. Before the monsters can say something to Ellian, who is in the eye of the dark tornado, Cardona and her men capture the monsters. So Flink/Bolinar takes help from the other Flinks to stop the soldiers from taking the monsters away. Furthermore, Flink convinces his other half in Bolinar’s body to release the monsters.
Can Love and Acceptance Mend a Broken Kingdom?
Once the monsters are released, they tell Cardona that they are the King and Queen and they need to rescue Ellian. Seeing Ellian destroying all the good memories with her parents, the monsters pull apart the lake of light and drop it inside the dark tornado. Immediately, Ellian loses the darkness within her. The monsters apologize to Ellian, and Ellian hugs them.
The space around them becomes the lake of light, and the monsters turn back into King Solon and Queen Ellsmere. One year later, Ellian’s parents have separated, but they still love Ellian and perform their duties as parents together. As Ellian hangs out with her giant cat, there is a flare. So Ellian rushes to the castle to be greeted by all her friends and family as it is a surprise birthday party for Ellian. The family lives happily ever after.
The reason Ellian was engulfed in the dark tornado was because Ellian was always putting up a positive attitude for the sake of Lumbria and for her parents, who had become monsters. When Ellian hears that her parents want to split, the positivity within Ellian dies as she feels her parents don’t love her or care about how she feels. In the end, though, Ellian’s parents split up, but Ellian has learned to live with it, embracing her freedom to live like a normal child. The film sends a message about letting go of relationships that don’t work. It is also about how children of separated parents feel and how to address their emotions and the situation.
