Team Dub

While Kuwabara's dub voice might be a bit strange in the first few episodes, the VA/direction balances out for the rest of the series.

Go with the Dub, I don't think theres an anime where I can say it has better dubbing than Yu Yu Hakusho.

Dub. YYH has one of the best dubs and it is full of charm and humor. Justin Cook is just *chef kiss*

One of my favorite dubs. Justin Cook nails it. Jokes land. Yelling attack names feels cool. Never watched anything after Dark Tournament for some reason.

If I ever have the option for original audio, it is what I'll watch, no matter if I watched it dubbed in the past.

Dub for sure. One of the best dubbing jobs ever.

I wouldn't call it Bebop's dub overrated by any means, but I do think quite a bit of it sounds more dated than people remember

I have it up there too but gave it to Yu Yu because of Kuwabara.

I mean it's certainly less dated than YYH's given some of the language used

Second best dub imo, only behind Bebop. Yusuke's VA is just insanely good for the role. He really pulls through the fact that Yusuke is a jerk lol

People will say the dub is good and it's gonna win the poll, but it's not good and you should watch the sub which is a masterpiece.

As someone that usually watches anime subbed, Yu Yu Hakusho is the optimal English dubbed watching experience. Sub version is fantastic too, but god damn the English dub is fantastic.

Not sure why the YYH dub gets so much love but it wasn't as great as everyone makes it out to be.

Because american anime dubs are usually pretty bad so when one shows up that's okay it gets overpraised.

But honestly? If the YYH performances showed up in an american cartoon people would call them shit.

Coming from someone who doesn't particularly like most dubs, watch the dub, there's a lot of personality and some very interesting voice choices and it's all very well done. The subbed version is fine but I personally don't see the point of watching it unless you speak Japanese.

The sub.

The dub is pretty good but Sabat's Kuwabara is miserable. Especially since Shigeru Chiba is absolutely bonkers in that role and I love every second.

I'm watching Yu Yu Hakusho for the first time, already watched the first episode and the dub isn't bad at all but I heard some scenes are censored.

Should I keep watching the dub or look for the uncensored sub version?

Raxus said:

One of the rare cases where the dub is far superior.

Uzuki said:

Hands down the dub all the way through unless you know Japanese or are one of those freaks that think that all anime has to be watched in Japanese. Just be prepared for the R-slur to be dropped a good number of times.

This kind of stuff always depends on what you want to get out of it. If you normally prefer watching things with English dubs, Yu Yu Hakusho has one of the best English anime dubs so you should stick with that. I've seen Yu Yu Hakusho in both Japanese and English, and from what I remember there isn't anything that felt "censored" or substantially altered from the original. However, if you do like watching anime in Japanese, the Japanese performances are great, and I strongly disagree with people asserting that the English dub is simply better than the Japanese one. I think this is a clear case where both versions are great and it really comes down to which one suits your interests best.

There are dubs besides the English dub.

Anyways English dubs of anime, compared to Filipino dubs always sounded... weird and weak to me, and Yu Yu is no exception.
But they do say Yu Yu's Eng dub is good.

The English adaptations of the OPs and EDs are good too but personally, I don't jive with the decision of removing the early 90sness of the music.

It's okay if you like the dub but if you compare it to voice acting in American cartoons that were released in the early 2000s like YYK in the US, do you really think it holds up to those?

I'm not saying the YYK dub is shit but just like it gets overpraised compared to other anime dubs it would get overcriticized compared to cartoon voice acting.

It's an okay dub, not a great one and it's definitely not better than the japanese original.

Also, I don't like Alfred's...... errrr I mean, Kuwabara's voice in English.

I'm biased so I'm going to say dub. But in reality, just watch the show. I'm on a rewatch right now, about to start episode 20.

Any dub that has me not even think once about watching it subbed is a great dub, simple as that

The idea that it's overpraised is hilarious given how rarely you can get anime fans to give an English dub that much praise to begin with, all that tells me is YYH really deserves it if people are still singing its praises all these years later
